Yes, I am back. Sort of. Sorry for the yearlong absence. (I blame Twitter—it makes posting so fast... In other news, read my Twitter feed to stay in touch.) A lot has happened in the past year, including amazing working trips to Brazil, Canada, and China! But I've really spent most of the past year with my nose to the grindstone, working on more books than I can count. So it's high time I mention one of the biggest things I've been working on:
SUNNY SIDE UP!
SUNNY SIDE UP is a graphic novel, but it's a little different than the work my sister, Jenni, and I have been doing in BABYMOUSE and SQUISH and COMICS SQUAD. Let me list some "firsts" for SUNNY SIDE UP:
- First FULL-COLOR graphic novel we have made (with the help of wonder-colorist Lark Pien)
- First graphic novel we've made of its length—224 PAGES!
- First graphic novel set in the "real world": It takes place in Pennsylvania and Florida in the 1970s, and it features (GASP!) human beings.
- First graphic novel we've made with Scholastic Graphix—the publisher behind awesome books like Raina Telgemeier's SMILE and SISTERS and Jeff Smith's BONE!
