Jeff Smith succumbs to the vermin, too

Alas, it's true—Bone creator Jeff Smith is the latest to be overrun by those filthy, dirty, disease carriers.

He's releasing a book called Little Mouse Gets Ready through Spiegelman and Mouly's Toon Books.

[By the way—as much as I LOVE the Toon Books mission, am I the only one who thinks that their books are priced a bit steep? $12.95 for a 32-page comic?]

Okay ... THESE hackers I can get behind.

Some pranksters hacked into a TxDOT highway sign in Austin, Tex., to post a warning about zombie attack.

How long until the World War Z movie comes out?

Amazon Review: Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book!

We did a special review of Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book for's Dr. Seuss Shop:

"The news just came in from the County of Keck that a very small bug by the name of Van Kleck is yawning so wide you can look down his neck." That long-winded news flash kicks off Dr. Seuss's Sleep Book, which is the weirdest, wildest tour through Seussland of them all--and the favorite Seuss book in the Holm household when we were growing up. Though superficially a mere bedtime book (the endpapers say, "This book is to be read in bed"), the Sleep Book is Dr. Seuss cut loose. Without a serious through-story, characters who appear for more than one page, or a tight setting such as Whoville or the household in The Cat in the Hat to worry about fleshing out, Dr. Seuss was able to explore the world of his imagination in the best way possible.

Skater Girl for a Wintry Day

A nice shout-out from Curious George Books and Toys:

On a lighter, and much pinker note, Jennifer and Matthew Holm's graphic novel Babymouse: Skater Girl (ages 6 and up) serves up yet another fun and daydream-filled episode in Babymouse's messy-whiskered life. Babymouse loves skating on the pond with Wilson Weasel so much that she signs up for ice skating lessons, with dreams of a trophy dancing in her head. But the lessons may be more than she's bargained for--can Babymouse give up cupcakes for first place?

A Very Babymouse Christmas Present

Saw this blog posting, about a much-appreciated bundle of Babymouse books:

We got a present from my younger brother and his wife for Christmas. I spent the month of December trying to figure out what it was; I figured it was a game of some sort because that's the kind of people they are. Imagine my surprise when C opened the present Christmas morning, and it was five Babymouse books! We all squealed (well, C and I did), and the words used to thank dear brother and wife were: "Babymouse ROCKS!"

Because, you know, Babymouse is awesome.

I am indebted to Babymouse (and those who recommended her to me last year), for C's increasing love of reading. She was looking for something inbetween picture books and chapter books, and Babymouse hit the spot...

More from Angela the Librarian

I see that Angela the Librarian also read Babymouse: Puppy Love. Here's a great snapshot of Babymouse's life:

Her archenemy is a cat, her best friend Wilson is a weasel, and her locker is trying to eat her.

Babymouse: The Musical at "Angela the Librarian"

Angela the Librarian has included Babymouse: The Musical in her 50-book Challenge (challenging herself to read 50 books during the school year). She says:

Babymouse is back and as eccentric as ever.

Matt and Jenni on Sirius XM's Kids Place Live!

Our interview with "Absolutely Mindy" was absolutely delightful. We sang live on the air (quite horribly). We're going to try to get her a CD of "This Is Babymouse" so that she can play it on the air, too (apparently, their music system requires stuff to be loaded in on a CD, not from a downloaded file). So, stay tuned for that...

For a quick recap, see the Kids Place Live Fans blog.

Babymouse creators Matthew and Jennifer Holm to be on Sirius XM Radio's Kids Place Live TOMORROW!

My sister and I will be appearing (does that term make sense on radio??) on Sirius XM Satellite Radio's Kids Place Live (Channel 116 on both Sirius and XM) tomorrow, Thursday, January 15 at 4PM ET. I'm a huge fan of satellite radio (I've been a Sirius subscriber for 3 years; I can't imagine having lived in the country or driven our ’cross-country move without it), so I'm really psyched about it. We'll be speaking with Mindy Thomas, host of the "Absolutely Mindy Show." Check it out!

Not a satellite radio subscriber? Well, you can sign up for a Free 3-day Trial, and listen online! (Online is actually how I listen to Sirius most of the time; I don't drive that much anymore.) Go do it!

Little Willow asks children's authors, "What are you looking forward to in the New Year?"

Check out Little Willow, who is asking authors what they're looking forward to in the New Year. (Jenni and I kick off the year!)
